Vegas Climbing

Against my better judgement, I agreed to climb hundreds of feet off the ground with my life in my coworkers' hands after only having ever bouldered/climbed in the gym. With a work trip placing us in Vegas, we couldn't pass up on this opportunity to climb in the Red Rocks. After moving our plane tickets a couple days ahead, failing our belay certifications, and watching hundreds of equipment failure videos, we set off to do some real deal climbing.

Straight off the plane we got right into the rental and out to the Red Rocks. We started with some light climbing on Cannibal Crag to get more familiar with belaying and how to read rock routes. Once we were feeling good, we were told there was a good multi-pitch climb nearby. We faced our fears and decided to attack the Big Bad Wolf head on. After the second pitch is when I found out we still had about 100 ft to go. I was in way over my head but at that point it would've been almost harder to get down than to finish the climb so I sucked it up and "just went up". In hindsight the climb was great despite the circumstances, and the nighttime descent. The rest of the climbs we did over the next two days were much more relaxed including Panty Wall and J Wall. I'm not sure rock climbing is something I'll go out of my way to do in the future but given the chance I'd do it all again.
